Why do we have to have those stupid dotty characters for password fields? Are we all so paranoid about secret agents looking over our shoulders through holes in their newspapers? Why can't we have regular text be the default, and then have a checkbox for the fools who are doing their banking on a public computer with a bunch of people waiting in line behind them? Like this:
